A circa-1999 site plan. Famous-Barr became Macy's in 2006,
Burlington Coat Factory moved out in 2004 and Office Max was
shuttered in 2003.The mall's Australian owner would shorten the
verbose mall moniker to WESTFIELD NORTHWEST in mid-2005.

Hate to burst your bubble, but the food court tenants are circa 2007. Ice Cream Dreams and Other Good Things didn't open until 2004 or 2005.
Ice Cream Dreams in 1997 was A&W Hot Dogs and Other Good Things in 1997 was a place called "Jambalaya"
Burst my bubble?
Ya know, I really must take issue with this type of snide, condescending comment.
In the past when you have posted, using this rather uppity tone, I have been nice and politely let you know that I did not appreciate it.
I do ALL of the work here for free, presenting this site as a sort of gift to all of us mall-o-philes. I ask NOTHING in return.....just that I be treated with the same respect that I would treat anyone else.
Where other "classic mall" sites have ads and pop up stuff to distract...I chose to NOT have any kind of advertisements what-so-ever.
I am not knocking the webmasters of the other fine classic mall sites....it just is not my personal goal to make a red cent off of the MALL HALL OF FAME. It is ENTIRELY nonprofit.
However, getting back to the discussion at hand. I must express AGAIN that I will no longer tolerate borish comment posts from you or anyone else out in cyberspace.
If you wish to alert me that something on here is incorrect, feel free to do so. I'm sure that you have noticed the disclaimer at the beginning of the blog.."If anything is incorrect, please post", yada yada.
However, a civil, UNsnide tone is MANDATORY.
Any more snide-type comments will be deleted without being acknowledged or answered. Do I make myself clear?
Heaven knows I do get things down incorrectly....
However, how many times do I read over information put out by major, multi-national, BILLION DOLLAR real estate investment trusts that has incorrect info??
The people putting this stuff together are employed by some high-faluting, big bucks ad agency or something....and are probably bringing in more in a month than I would working for 6.
Give me a break.
Oh, I went ahead and simply removed any listing of Food Court tenants at NW PLAZA.
I don't have the time to correct any of it.......
Cheers,
Yikes! I really didn't mean to offend you. Honestly.
I know I've had problems like this on other blogs and forums, but I can tell you that I am not a jerk in real life.
I know I was hard on this article (and the new format of LAKEWOOD CENTER) and I don't really remember contributing any real information, just corrections, some not as polite as I (or you) would want it to be.
It's just the Internet seems so...impersonal. I have a blog too, and its running a bit low on content (I put a mostly-complete list of Foley's stores in there) but I rarely get any comments. I do not get profit from my blog either.
I've gotten snubbed before, on one of my favorite SimCity sites (multiple times) and the owner of the Remembering Retail group on Yahoo has _never_ answered my request to join the group.
Would love to assist you in finding information out on rare malls, if it helps fuel the blog.
Jonah,
I'm glad to hear that thesse kind of comments were something of an accident.
As a rule of thumb, in the future you might want to consider reading over any comments before posting.
Ask yourself whether or not the tone implied could be taken as snide......Then, make any corrections before pressing that "publish comment" button.....
After all, I am not an impersonal robot here...but a living and beathing human being. Maybe I am over reacting..I dunno....
As for being snubbed....as you might imagine, this has happened to me too. I often send emails (if I can find an addy to reply to) when I use photos I find.
More often than not, I hear back nada. I take this as permission granted. If there was some problem, they could take a minute or two out of their busy work day to send a short reply....right?
Ohh, and don't even get me off on all of the nice requests I have made to this and that REIT or mall manager asking something about THEIR malls.....hearing back ZIP.
I finally gave up on this avenue of exploration...as agents of GENERAL GROWTH PROPERTIES were about the ONLY ONES who ever bothered to respond.
I'm sure that the other high-faluting, big bucks employees of certain other corporate entities consider me to be some bothersome crackpot.....
Hopefully, with the deminishing shopping mall scenario at hand, these same -rather snooty, self-important- individuals will be able to keep their illustrious, high-paying jobs.....
Just my 2 cents worth......
